Paul Hodkinson

Below are some details of current research projects and books/articles in the process of being produced.

Forever Goth? Subcultural Identities and Ageing

I have completed the first phrase of a project focused on the development of identities within the goth scene as participants become older. An article has already published in the British Journal of Sociology on this, leading to media coverage on Radio 4's Thinking Allowed and in The Guardian.

Separately, Andy Bennett and myself have now completed editing of a new collection on the subject of Ageing and Youth Cultures. The book, titled Ageing and Youth Cultures: Music, Style and Identity, is due for release in September 2012.

    Social Networking Software
Ongoing research into the use of blogs, online journals and other forms of social networking software by young people, in relation to issues of identity, community and personal space.

    Media, Culture and Society
Media, Culture and Society: An Introduction was released in autumn 2010. The book provides a comprehensive and up to date account of core debates relating to technological, textual, institutional and audience related approaches to media. See publications page for further detail.
